Becky Dixon

What’s your day-job?
I’m a Solicitor.

What year did you start skating?
2006 – January I think.

Why did you start skating?
I had just moved to Hull and wanted to meet a few more people – I had enjoyed skating a few times when I was younger, and got caught up in Dancing on Ice fever – the rink was only just down the road so it seemed rude not to sign up to one of the group courses. I coaxed a friend along with me, met loads of people, started taking private lessons and the rest is history!

What’s your favourite compulsory/pattern dance?
The Fourteen Step with a partner, the Festival Quickstep for solo.

Which disciplines have you participated in since you started skating?
Ice Dance, Singles figure skating, Synchronised skating

Please tell us all about your skating highlights:
I’ve taken part in a number of RIDL events over the years, and competed at the British Adult Open Championships in 2009 in the solo dance category. While there, me and two fellow KIDC members watched the Sheffield synchronised ice skating teams practice, and I just fell in love with it. I helped to establish the Northern Stars, Hull’s first and only adult synchro team, and I’m currently Team Captain. I was incredibly proud when we won a silver medal at the Trophy D’Ecosse in April 2011 – the UK’s largest ever synchro competition. We’ve also started an under-18s team, so it’s all go.

When you’re not on the ice, what are you doing?
Thinking about it! I love web design and often tinker with the websites for KIDC and the Northern Stars. When time permits, I read hopeless chick-lit and decorate cupcakes with abandon.
